NIKE PEGASUS 35 SHIELD REVIEW (after 230 km's)
Should i go true to size or go 1 size up?
I went tts
Agree, the midsole is trash. Super firm, definitely not that marshmallow feel that Hoka is known for. The tongue is still not long enough or padded enough. I did 30 miles on them and then returned them. I am now in the Mafate Speed 4. I have been wearing Speedgoats since version 1. The best versions were the 2, 3 and the Evo. Maybe Hoka will get it right on the 7.
Sure hope the 7 is awesome
Cody was superfast
You’re right! I had a hard time keeping up lol
Great review! I recently purchased SG5 and really like them for daily trail runs. Don’t have experience with other SG but do have MS4 and love them. I would never purchase NORDA or SPEEDLAND because of ridiculous price! Yes I can get them but I would feel stupid to. Like cycling equipment, prices vary because of brands which I don’t get out of principle. A set of MAAP kit can cost about $600, no problem and thanks
Great points! Thanks for watching too
I am no longer a hoka customer. After 10 years of competitive running, and probably over 20+ pairs of specifically hoka shoes, they ruined their line up with the Challengers 7s being like rounded hard sketchers and the speedgoat 6s were an epic failure from wearing the lugs out in one backyard ultra and feeling sloppy almost immediately from the backs of the shoe being mis shaped, whyyyyy did they make this silly heel resting pop up area??? It looks like a reverse elf shoe.
I am now officially only backing up Salomon. The ultra glides and aero glides are perfect and last over 2000km to a pair.
I was thinking of grabbing a pair of ultra glides too.
Disappointing to hear about the midsole. Everyone says the same thing. I love the 5s. Won't be buying the 6
Yea I was bummed, but I think they would work if you like firm midsoles.
Great camera work Colin!
Thx Mark!
On sizing - are you referring to US or UK sizes?
US
Thanks mate. I have went up 1/2 US size from Hoka equivalent in the 001 and still relatively little space beyond big toe at the front. Maybe slightly less than 1/2 a thumb. Similar fit length wise for you on 001?
@@barrys1933 yea I only went up a half size in the 001 and I liked the fit, but could probably be fine in a full size up too.
Great edit Colin 🤘
🙏🙏
2025 goal is to be chased by Colin in the top 3 😂
Let’s make it happen!
spoiler!
I value your reviews. So disappointed to hear this about the SG6… the SG5 for rolling carriage trail was fine but the midsole seems to go flat after 75miles. Can’t get the SG4 anymore. The Mafate 4 has been great for me on technical trails. What do you turn to for a cushioned every day non technical trainer?
Right now I’m using my last two pairs of SG4’s, so I’m on the search for a new one. I just got the Brooks Caldera 7 but having to send them back because they run a little short, 10.5 usually fits me in every brand, but might try an 11 in the Caldera 7.
D problem is that these companies try to b cool and make ass from recycled crap rather than improve performance n quality
I ran in SG 3 and 4 and swore I would run in Speedgoat forever. Then version 5 came out and Hoka ruined the cushion. It sounds as if version 6 is not even worth a try so have moved onto an entirely different brand. Hoka- bring back the cushions of Speedgoat 3 or 4 and I will come back in a heartbeat!
Agreed!
Ho, for 75k runner, what will be the max distance you will say have enought confort and cushion? 42k 50? 100? Also you find have good propulsion even without plate? Thanks! Thanks
Definitely up to 50, maybe even 100. It’s not exactly like a plated shoe, but the cushion has great bounce.
Thank you. What's your view on the stinson 7?
I’ve never tried the Stinson, looks like an interesting shoe though
@@swiftcolin yeah I heard great things would love to hear your opinion 🙌🏼🙌🏼🔥
Hi! Nice review of the speed. Can you maybe do a review of the Ultra also? The ultra doesn’t have carbon rods btw, it’s plastic TPU rods so it shouldn’t be as stiff as a carbon racer. The plastic rods is more for stiffening up the full midsole of the more softer lightstrike pro. Thanks!
Would love to! Just don’t wanna spend the $300 Canadian lol
Run4Adventure has a First Run Agravic Speed rewiew. There is a comment there, one guy has a lot of Adida's shoes and have both Agravic Ultra and Agravoc Speed, and gives a wonderfull insight of both. Took me a long time to find it, hope it serves you well. 👍🙌🇧🇷
Look Andrew's comment, just checked there. Great insight.
Just ran 8 miles in them for the first time. Feet feel great. Hoping the insoles survive the water crossings 🫠
Hope they work well for you!
I like the 5s except for the uppers. Seems I’ll look for something else after they are done.
They definitely improved the upper, but the midsole is boring
Its expensive but wait! If it lasts more than twice the miles of another shoe, its actually cheaper per mile. Also Canadian company gotta support them !
Gotten almost 800k’s on the 001, not even half that on the 002’s yet though
👍 Another trail shoe in this class thats actually underrated Asics fujispeed!
I’ve been really wanting to try those out!
Way to shit on my parade. Just got a pair.
Haha hopefully they work for you!
Mine are sitting at home in my mailbox. Hopefully the wide version I ordered fits my feet.
Did you have problems with the side walls digging into your ankles whilst wearing them in? My first run in these shoes, they were digging into the bottom portion of my ankles every time I turned left or right.
I don’t think so, I usually wear pretty thick socks though
Thanks for your response @swiftcolin appreciate it. I'll try wearing padded socks and see how I go.
Bummer about the midsole. New upper with the SG4 midsole for the 7. Gonna have to find a new shoe now. The 5 midsole sucked compared to the 4. Hoka people want soft cush! By mile 13 in the Imogene pass run the bottom of my feet were killing me in the 5's.
Agreed, thinking of trying the Brooks Caldera 7
Seems like I'm going to by pass the SG6 buy I couple of 5's and wait for the 7's....
Probably a good call if you like the 5’s
what app is that where you track your shoes?
Strava
If you were trying the Norda’s for the first time would you start with a 001 or 002?
001 for me
Look to be in the same class as Brooks Catamount? Was thinking of these for flat 50miler
I think so yes!
The Speedgoat line is dead for me after the 5. I loved the 2 and the EVO, the 5 was an attempt to cheaply lowball the EVO, and was a miserable failure.
lol I see no lies
guess i will be stocking up on 5's
If you like the 5 it’s probably a good idea.
@@swiftcolin or switch to Mafates?
I had two pairs of 4's (wore them out) have two pairs of fives (pretty shredded now) getting the 6's soon
Let me know what you think of the 6’s
@swiftcolin so had my first run in the SG6 today and WoW, I flew. I did 12miles in my 5's then jumped in my 6's for the last 6miles...they were like the lighter, race version 🫶👌🫶
@MarkCrowe-kq6ce glad they’re working for you!
I'm honestly really struggling to find the right shoe this season. Right now the best I have are the Mafate 4 but I can't fit my insoles in there and they are a bit thin width ways. I have 1 SG4 left unused still. Any recommendations? I just want a wideish cushioned grippy rockered trail shoe that can take technical terrain?
I’d go with that last pair of SG4 for sure, I’ve also heard great things about the Nike Zegama 2 so far, just wish they were a little less expensive or I would try them.
Try the Asics Trabuco Max 3. I love mine.
@@chris.schmied Thanks for the recommendation. I've tried them on at the store and the stack height is pretty huge so I'm worried about technical alpine terrain in them.
@@Rainyfeels I will do a review on them soon. I use them for technical runs here in the alps. I find them very stable. But that’s for my style of running. The Speedgoat 5 was terrible for me on technical terrain.
@@chris.schmied Interesting, maybe I'll give it a try then? Any other favourites? I have fairly wide feet and have struggled a bunch - don't want 0 drops Altra etc.
I've only put 20km into my SG6 and for me the midsole is very very stiff. I think the shape and vibe of the shoe has moved back towards the SG4 but let's see if the midsole softens at all.
They don’t feel much different after 100k but hopefully they soften up for you!
@@swiftcolin I'm honestly really struggling to find the right shoe this season. Right now the best I have are the Mafate 4 but I can't fit my insoles in there and they are a bit thin width ways. Not sure if you’ve tried the North Face Vectiv Enduris 3, but they do pretty well in all those categories
Take me back to the Speedgoat 4 and EVO Speedgoat days!
1000%!
The Evo Speedgoat as to be the best ever shoe Hoka have done. I still have one pair and everytime I run in them is like I'm getting one step closer to their end 😢
I just found a new pair of EVO’s on poshmark and have run in them twice, really weird how Hoka didn’t want to keep making that shoe and improving on it.
@@swiftcolin 100% Dificult to understand you right. Its already their best shoe without much improvement on it.
hey there! its almost 700 km in your Nordas 001. So wassap?? still favorite?
Totally! Gonna try and get them to 1000km’s and do a quick update video on them.
Same here. Loved the 2,3,4. Was disappointed with upper and grip on the 5. Will skip the 6 also. Too bad, SG was the absolute go to trail shoe for so many!
Agreed! Let’s hope the 7 is awesome
I’m glad you said all this, as I loved my SG 4, just can’t get hold of them anymore.
Same! Grabbed a couple pairs when the 5’s came out and found a pair of EVO’s on poshmark luckily
Same here - they were the best. SG5 upper sucked and I was hoping they fixed this but sad to see that the midsole changed for the worse. I have 2 pairs of Mafate 4, they are good shoes and don't have the problems SG5 had.
Awesome review! I'm actually eyeing this one. How do you compare them to the tnf vectiv pro in terms of midsole?
It’s a lower stack but it’s actually a similar feeling foam, great cushion with a lot of bounce.
Great review. Think I'll skip this version
Don’t blame you lol
Totally agree on the midsole. It’s like cardboard compared to previous models. I’ve had multiple pairs of SG 2,3,4 and 5’s and irrespective of other issues - especially with the uppers, they’ve always had an all-day, plush ride that set them apart from other trail shoes. Now it’s gone, so has their differentiation and relevance. Super disappointing as it feels like the upper is going to work better on this model. Having to rethink what to wear on long days now.
Okay, I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks this! Definitely unfortunate, usually have to wait a couple years for a new model.
They are $64 USD off on the website right now, I’m really considering getting some
Well worth it if they’re on sale and can get your sizing right.
There is a wide in the SG6. Sounds like you should try another 100km in those ;)
Haha maybe that would do the trick
Your point about wondering if you received a dud based on the midsole comments might be worth bringing to Hoka’s attention. Maybe send the shoe back for them to inspect? Based on your comments I’m not buying it despite being a huge speedgoat fan
Might be worth checking out!
Thank you for the review. How would you compare this to the Caldera 6?
Caldera 6 felt way better underfoot, softer and bouncier midsole for sure, but similar overall feel when it comes to fit and stack height.
Nice review. I agree they are really good shoes, snappy nimble and light. The LS basic foam wraps around the outside upper border with LS Pro fully as base.
Agreed! Explains why it’s such a fun bouncy shoe.
I bypassed the Speedgoat altogether and went straight for the Mafate Speed 4. Love it.
If I go with a Hoka trial show again, it will be the Mafate!
@@swiftcolin if they could shave off 25g it would be perfect. So comfortable with great midsole/grip
Thanks for this review Colin!
Thanks for watching!
I swore by the SG 2’s and 4’s for anything trail, 5 was a big disappointment all around and looks like the 6 is no better so I won’t even waste my time on them. Oddly the Zegama 2 seems to have swooped in to fill that void for me - really liking that one so far.
Would love to try the Zegama 2!
@@swiftcolin I'll be curious what you think. To me they're worse in every way vs. the Zegama 1 (besides the Vibram), heavy and hot and less stable
Might have to wait for the price to come down, but I loved the zegama 1 too except for the traction.
Why its feels so good cushion is because it is actually not a top layer of lightstrike but a rim of lightstrike around full hight lightstrike pro. S it adds stability but doesnt take away from the cushion.
Makes sense!!
Have you try the boston 12, if so does it feel the same ? Or is it more bouncy or firm ?
Unfortunately I haven’t, mostly run trails, but I know the 12’s have light strike pro on top and light strike underneath and this shoe is the opposite, so I’m assuming the agravic speed would feel a little more firm, but I can’t say for sure.
